Vance says U.S. advancing Mideast military buildup to respond 'if Iranians do something very stupid'
U.S. Vice President JD Vance remarked on the United States' military buildup in the Persian Gulf amid tensions with Iran over its deadly crackdown on protests in the country, saying that President Donald Trump "wanted to make sure if the Iranians, god forbid, did something very stupid, then we have the resources to respond to it."
"The president obviously has a lot of cards he can play," Vance told Newsmax. "I'm not gonna reveal how he plays them. We just want to make sure that we have options. We have a lot of forces in the region. We have people who could be endangered."
He said that the United States must "make sure we have people over there to protect our assets in that part of the world," including U.S. allies such as Saudi Arabia.

Witkoff suggests US prefers to resolve Iran tensions with diplomacy, not military action
HOLLYWOOD, Florida — US special envoy Steve Witkoff suggests that the Trump administration prefers a diplomatic resolution, rather than a military one, to the ongoing tensions with Iran.
Asked in an onstage interview at the Israeli-American Council conference in Florida if he thinks a US military strike against Iran is likely, Witkoff responds, “I hope there’s a diplomatic resolution. I really do.”

Pentagon presents Trump with wide range of options for Iran attack, U.S. source tells New York Times
The Pentagon presented U.S. President Donald Trump with a wide range of options for a strike in Iran, including the possibility of attacking parts of its nuclear program, a senior American source told the New York Times tonight.
The source qualified the statement by noting that the more likely options at this stage are pinpointed, such as a cyberattack or a strike against Iran's internal security apparatus, which violently suppresses protests in the country. According to the official, any such attack is "a few days away," while Trump, who according to other officials is simultaneously exploring diplomatic avenues, is expected to receive a briefing on the military options today.
