I grabbed a couple of videos I made studying various handguns and edited them together.
Thanks to slow motion you can see the recoil impulse from the cartridge firing. But it is usually the slide compressing the recoil spring, and smacking against the frame that causes another recoil impulse resulting in additional muzzle climb.
I tested revolvers that do not have reciprocating mass and the only driving force of recoil and muzzle climb is the bore axis. High bore axis on traditional revolvers will flip. Low bore axis doesn’t as much.
Imagine holding a hammer in your hand. If someone pushed on the head of the hammer, it would move back and up due to physics and where you hold the handle. If you choke up and hold the handle just under the head. It would move back but not so much up.
