Please submit your interest at https://mobiledwellings.media and I'll be in touch! - Next up we installed some furring strips for our ceiling panels to attach to. We wanted to increase our overhead insulation, and provide a solid thermal break between the metal of the bus and our interior ceiling so we put up 1x4 nominal lumber (which is really 3/4 x 3 1/2) running lengthwise. Our finished ceiling will be 4x8 panels (1/4 or 1/8 luan for example) run perpendicular to the furring strips.
We decided to put a little bit of rigid foam board (extruded polystyrene insulation that came with the bus) between the metal ribs and the wooden furs in order to provide an even better thermal break.
We counterbored for each screw, and predrilled each board to help prevent splitting and allow our screws to be flush with or deeper than the board. We didn't use this bit: https://amzn.to/2yvbaVy but we wish we had something like this on hand because it would have saved the step of pre-drilling holes.
We attached the strips with 1 1/4 #10 self-drilling screws. We paid about $5.50 for a pack of 35 at Lowes, so this link would have been a much better deal: https://amzn.to/2Sd5nwd and we used about 100 for our 6 furring strips on our 40 ft bus.
If you ever use our amazon associate links we'll get a small percentage of the sale and it will help support our ability to vlog our build with better camera equipment! If you buy something, let us know in the comments if you do so we can thank you!!
