We went live from our home in Florida cleaning some amazing shells — including giant Queen Conchs, huge Horse Conchs, and other treasures found across Florida beaches! 🌴🌊

Kick back with us as we show step-by-step how we clean and restore shells — from bleach baths to mineral oil finishing, plus our last-resort method using muriatic acid.

🧼 Cleaning Shells with Bleach

Perfect for large shells like Queen Conchs, Horse Conchs, and even those barnacle-covered King Crowns!
1. Rinse shells in freshwater.
2. Soak overnight in 100% bleach (half cheap bleach + half Clorox, or use all Clorox for best results).
3. Rinse again and scrape barnacles/calcium with dental picks.
4. Repeat if needed.
5. Finish with a light polish of mineral oil to restore natural shine ✨

💡 Tip: Use containers with lids to reduce evaporation and save bleach.

⚠️ Cleaning Shells with Muriatic Acid

⚠️ Not for all shells — and easy to ruin them! Avoid using acid on delicate shells (Olives, Cowries, Sand Dollars, Urchins, Sea Biscuits, etc.).

Steps:
• Mix 3 parts water : 1 part acid (always pour acid into water).
• Wear gloves + safety goggles.
• Dip shells for 3–5 seconds only.
• Immediately dip in baking soda + water to neutralize.
• Store dip in sealed container for reuse.
• Neutralize spent acid with baking soda water before disposal.
