This is the story of Sigurd the Crusader, the only Viking king in history to personally lead a crusade to Jerusalem.

With 60 longships and thousands of warriors, Sigurd launched what became known as the Norwegian Crusade (1107–1111). Along the way, he battled Muslim forces in Spain, crushed Mediterranean pirates, fought beside King Baldwin I of Jerusalem, and helped capture the city of Sidon.

He became the first European king to visit Jerusalem during the Crusades — a Viking who stood at the crossroads of Norse warrior culture and Christian holy war.

But his story does not end in glory alone. After returning to Norway, Sigurd’s later years were marked by instability and tragedy, making his life one of the most fascinating and complex chapters in medieval history.
