Chaos Walking sea monster (alien River Ghost) fight with Tom scene
River Ghost - sea monster, alien. The "River Ghost" is a sapient alien creature encountered on the "Game Preserve Planet". It's fair to assume that members of its species have been abducted by the Yautja and brought to that world to be hunted. This alien species is a bipedal humanoid with a complex exoskeleton and is noted for its amazing speed and agility. They also seem to have small insect-like creatures living on their skin, possibly as symbionts.
The name "River Ghost" isn't used in the film and actually comes from an earlier version of the script, where the creature was briefly spotted in the vicinity of a river, almost like an apparition.
The series consists of three novels—The Knife of Letting Go, The Ask and the Answer, and Monsters of Men—as well as three short stories set in the same fictional universe, intended as companion pieces to the novels. The series takes place on a planet called New World, where we meet Todd, a boy living in a religiously devoted settlement known as Prentisstown, led by the megalomaniac mayor, David Prentiss. There are no women left, and all the men are afflicted by something called the "Noise," which makes their thoughts audible, driving many of them mad. The same is true for Todd's little dog, Manchee. This is purportedly the result of biological warfare on the part of a native intelligent species known as Spackle, who resented the arrival of the colonizers. The germ killed all the women and left the men with the Noise.
Charlie Kaufman penned a first draft of the script but left the project soon after. Numerous script revisions followed, with Ness himself contributing to the effort. (He is also the author of A Monster Calls and wrote the script for that film adaptation.) Then Liman signed on to direct, with Ridley and Holland on board as co-stars. The film was shot in Montreal, Scotland, and Iceland.
Chaos Walking is a 2021 American dystopian action film directed by Doug Liman from a screenplay by Patrick Ness and Christopher Ford. It is based on the sci-fi trilogy Chaos Walking, adapting its first book, 2008's The Knife of Never Letting Go by Ness. The film stars Daisy Ridley and Tom Holland, along with Mads Mikkelsen, Demián Bichir, Cynthia Erivo, Nick Jonas, and David Oyelowo, and follows a young man (Holland) who lives in a dystopian world where there are no women and all living creatures can hear each other's thoughts in a stream of images, words, and sounds called "Noise." When a woman (Ridley) crash lands onto the planet, he must help her escape danger.
Announced in 2011, the film had undergone several rewrites from a first script draft written by Charlie Kaufman, with Jamie Linden, John Lee Hancock, Gary Spinelli, Lindsey Beer, Christopher Ford, and Ness revising the screenplay further. Liman was later announced as the director in 2016, with principal photography beginning in 2017. Originally set to release on March 1, 2019, it was removed from schedule to accommodate the film's reshoots in April 2019 following poor test screenings.
Pilot: In the year 2257 AD, the men of the planet New World have been afflicted with the Noise, a condition that means everyone can see and hear each other's thoughts. The colonists were caught in a civil war with the native aliens which killed all of the women, but half of the men survived. Todd Hewitt (Tom Holland) lives in Prentisstown with his adoptive fathers, Ben (Demian Bichir) and Cillian Boyd (Kurt Sutter). Other residents include the preacher Aaron (David Oyelowo), the town's mayor David Prentiss (Mads Mikkelsen), and his son Davy (Nick Jonas). A spaceship that lost contact with the First Colony approaches New World; a scout ship is sent to investigate, but it crashes. One day, while Todd is working, he spots someone stealing and chases after the thief only to come upon the ruins of the scout ship.
He returns to the town and tries to keep quiet, but the other men hear and see his thoughts about the crashed ship; they head to investigate the ruins and sabotage some parts of it, but find no survivors. While Todd is alone, he meets Viola (Daisy Ridley), who was the only survivor of the crash. Todd is shocked to see she's a girl, as he has never seen one before. The men from Prentisstown capture Viola; she is brought to the mayor's home where she's questioned, and Prentiss then explains to her what the Noise is and what has happened on their planet. While he goes out to speak to the men, Davy is charged to keep an eye on her, but he unwittingly toys with one of Viola's gadgets, which causes it to shoot sparks, helping Viola escapes.
