In this deleted scene, Linnie tells Peter that it doesn't look like Kate and Kevin will be back in time for Christmas. Linnie says that without Kate and Kevin, Christmas won't even feel like Christmas. Peter says they'll just postpone Christmas. Linnie tells Peter that it's stupid for them to do that because Christmas isn't about Paris, it's about families being together even if they do fight the rest of the year. Peter realizes that there's a lot of truth in what Linnie is saying.
This scene was great acting by John Heard(Peter) and Angela Goethals(Linnie) with a father and daughter understanding what Christmas is all about. However, it was deleted because it implies that Peter and the kids are going to forget about being in Paris and just come home so they can all spend Christmas together with Kate and Kevin as a family(like they're supposed to), which takes away from the surprise Kevin gets at the end of the movie to see his dad, brothers and sisters walk into the house on Christmas Day. I guess the producers wanted them all coming home to be pretty much unexpected by the audience.
This scene is inspirational to viewers because it makes you understand that it doesn't matter where you spend Christmas as long as you're together with your family. WHO you spend Christmas WITH is always more important than WHERE you spend Christmas.
