The Green Eyed Gecko or the Giant Forest Gecko ( Gekko smithii ) is one of the largest gecko species in the world, found in Asia. It is a nocturnal hunter, like most geckos, and is found in primary rainforest. This gecko has characteristic green eyes, and the rest of the body is also green with mottled brown and white spots, giving a moss like appearance, allowing this gecko to camouflage into the bark or trunk of a tree. The gecko's temperament in the wild is quite defensive and bites very readily, although the jaw pressure isn't as strong as a Tokay Gecko.
This episode also features the Hagen's Pit Viper ( Trimeresurus hageni ) , like most tree dwelling pit vipers in Asia, they are green.

The Science:
With over 1 Million species on the IUCN Red List of Endangered Species, animal populations are in decline the world over. This is due to many reasons but what we know for sure is to keep the planet's amazing diversity of wildlife we need to learn as much as possible about where and how these creatures live their lives. Collating all the data we are gathering will help build a picture of which habitats are key to sustaining the largest diversity of life on planet earth.
