The Isle Of Scilly disaster of 1707, was one of the greatest single maritime disasters in British history, during which the admiralty lost four ships, including their flagship and up to 2,000 sailors.
There is an enduring legend that it was a curse uttered by a condemned sailor that sent the ships to their doom and that the sailor’s corpse even followed the ships to their fate on the rocks of the Isle.
