Asian Musicians Illuminate Baroque, Renaissance and Medieval Music | Resound

Описание: The Gleam Ensemble is a Taiwan-based group dedicated to reviving Baroque music, Renaissance music, and the sounds of Medieval Europe. Performing with historical instruments, they bring to life melodies that once graced royal courts, bustling piazzas and Renaissance dance halls. Founded in 2019, their name, “Gleam,” symbolizes the contrasts of light and shadow seen in Renaissance art, reflecting their mission to illuminate and preserve historical music while showcasing the unique artistry of Asian musicianship.

Led by Taiwanese historical bassoon and organ player Martin Chiang, Japanese Baroque violinist Shio Ohshita, and Taiwanese violinist Chen I-chun, the ensemble demonstrates how Asian musicians breathe new life into Western classical traditions. Through captivating performances, as well as seminars, workshops, and collaborations, The Gleam Ensemble bridges cultures and eras, keeping the music of centuries past alive and resonant in today’s world.

‘Resound’ is a TaiwanPlus original series that hopes to present Taiwan’s varied musical landscape. Not only are there a wide array of musical genres that are being professionally performed here, but the kinds of musical groups performing them are just as diverse. From classical musicians to contemporary artists that exhibit their talent in both musicianship and songwriting, to jazz bands and acapella groups who tell tales unique to Taiwan. We believe that good music is worth resounding over and over again.
