Semi-Trailer Fire Sends Heavy Smoke Over Southwest Bakersfield

February 21, 2026 – 4:30 PM
At approximately 4:30 PM, Bakersfield Fire Department and Kern County Fire Department were dispatched following multiple reports of heavy black smoke in the area of Watts Drive and Cottonwood Road.
Upon arrival, crews located a semi-trailer fully involved with stacks of tires and debris burning. Firefighters from both agencies are actively working to extinguish the fire and contain the scene.
No injuries have been reported at this time. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Bakersfield Police Department and the California Highway Patrol are currently assisting with traffic control in the area.
