I give this game a rating of 6.1/10. Well, this is a simple Mario game, and all you have to do is collect coins. As you collect more, you move higher, and the goal is to reach the end with the best score. One thing that caught my attention is that the game has four languages, and you can choose whichever you want. It’s pretty uncommon to see a language selection in a Flash game.
The gameplay is straightforward—you move with the arrow keys, and in the sky, there are more power-ups, not just coins, that help you along the way. It was tough for me to finish the "first level." At first, it seemed like an endless, boring game, but after finishing a level, you enter a pipe, which counts as level 2. The sky changes, and it’s obviously different, which I liked because it’s not infinite. If everything is defined like this, it means there’s an end, though I didn’t reach it.
There are also "enemies," like Bullet Bills and the flying turtle. If you touch them, you obviously lose, and when that happens, it shows the collected coins. To increase your score, you can jump on enemies, which gives you points—the more you jump, the higher your score will be. I assume the game had a leaderboard, but when I pressed "Best Scores," absolutely nothing happened, so I don’t know what that was for.
When you lose, you start all over again, and it doesn’t matter if you passed a level—you still have to try to score higher from the start. Restarting from where you left off would make the game too easy and boring. Although the game seems like the simplest thing in the world, it was difficult for me. After struggling with the first level for a while, I finally started to get through it quickly. This shows that the game requires skill and learning the level by heart. You also need to know which direction to go and which coins or power-ups to grab. I fell many times because of that, and of course, the enemies play a role too.
Overall, the game is good—I have no complaints. The graphics? Well, when the game starts, it says "Property of Nintendo," but even with that, the game feels polished, and nothing seems out of place. It’s not just about taking random images and putting them in—it’s well done. The images don’t feel out of place or look low-quality. It might seem easy to say, "Just take images and put them in," but it’s not that simple.
The sounds? Once again, "Property of Nintendo." The music isn’t overwhelming or annoying—the music loop is fun and doesn’t interfere with gameplay. The sound effects, again "Property of Nintendo," are well-placed and don’t bother you at all while playing.
The game is something basic yet entertaining, though it’s obviously not easy since it’s challenging to beat. It’s not something I would play for hours.
