When elderly Samuel Harding (94) stands before an M1 Garand display in the Starkweather Archive, arrogant Lieutenant Derek Miller confronts him: "What in the hell is this supposed to be? This is a Level Four restricted area. There are no tours. There are no visitors. How did you get in here?" He escalates: "This is the United States Army Historical Command's most sensitive collection. We have documents in here that are still classified above Top Secret. You can't just wander in because you're looking for the restroom." When Harding shows his driver's license, Miller mocks: "Ninety-four years old. Well, Mr. Harding, you've had a good run, but your wandering days are over. Look, Grandpa, whatever you did in your war, we appreciate your service, but this is a different world. We have rules." Miller physically grabs and shoves Harding against a display case. Alarms trigger. Base Commander General Peterson and Colonel Davies arrive with armed security. Colonel Davies announces: "The man you just assaulted is General of the Army Samuel Elias Harding"—five-star rank held only by Marshall, MacArthur, Bradley, Eisenhower, Arnold. "He received battlefield promotion from Captain to Major at Chosin Reservoir after holding the line for three days against an entire enemy division. The men called him the 'Ghost of Frozen Chosin' because they swore he couldn't be killed. He advised President Kennedy during Cuban Missile Crisis, designed Vietnam withdrawal strategy, planned Desert Storm flanking maneuver. He has three Distinguished Service Crosses, five Silver Stars, and a Medal of Honor he never wears publicly because he believes 'the real heroes never came home.'" The archive is named after Captain Starkweather who died in Harding's arms on Hill 255. Harding visits annually to honor him. Harding tells Peterson: "Don't ruin his career. Teach him. Send him to Walter Reed. Let him spend a year working with the wounded warriors. Let him learn what service and sacrifice really look like. Rank is a responsibility you carry, son. It's not a weapon you wield. True authority comes from respect, and you have to earn that."
