DAYTON-- The first full month s revenue report was released Tuesday for the Hollywood Gaming Dayton Raceway. It is regulated by the Ohio Lottery.
The report shows patrons played $74,344,646 worth of credits. They won back $66,329,483. The racino gave out $1,815,127 in promotional credits. If you take the total credits played and subtract the winnings by patrons and the promotional credits given, that is a net win for the racino of $6,200,036.
Hollywood Gaming only gets to keep about two-thirds of the net win though, equaling $4,102,409.
The Ohio Lottery receives roughly one-third of it, equaling about $2,077,012. That money will then be used to fund Ohio schools.
Lastly, a portion of all racino money goes to help people with gambling addictions. Those programs receive half of one-percent, which equals $20,615 for September.
We then compared those first month numbers to the closest competitor for Dayton s racino, Miami Valley Gaming in Lebanon. Patrons played $89,960,131 in credits during its first full month open. That is $15,615,485 more credits played.
However, Dayton s racino gave away roughly 15% more promotional credits during its first month. Part of those promotional credits was due to a technical glitch that gave away tens of thousands of dollars.
We spoke with one man who won $12,000 because of the glitch. We contacted Hollywood Gaming but Bob Tenanbaum said the company did not want to comment on the exact amount of cash given away.
Customers were happy walking out after the glitch, and nearby businesses say the racino is a good neighbor so far.
Larry Parr, the Owner of the Paradise Key Caf says he was happy to see the racino open up.
"A lot of the people from the casino or racino, whatever, have come over and tried our wings, tried our food, and they have returned. so we've seen about a 10% pickup in business and we're really thrilled," said Parr.
Parr adds the racino has been great advertising for his restaurant. He says even with more people driving by, he's not seeing many traffic problems.
"The guys who put the signals in have done a great job. they have them all timed and it works out great. they're just not having any problems," said Parr.
No one we spoke to in the area had anything negative to say about any extra traffic hurting their business or any increase in crime in the area.
