A stripped-down home performance of “My Head Can’t Rest No More,” originally recorded in 1950 by “Baby Face” Leroy Foster for the J.O.B. label — one of the foundational architects of early Chicago electric blues.
This is a solo, no-band performance focused on rhythm, time, and tone, played on a Gretsch Gin Rickey into a vintage tweed Gretsch Electromatic 10” amplifier, staying close to the sound and spirit of post-war Chicago blues.
Leroy Foster’s playing is a perfect lesson in economy:
no flash, no excess — just steady time, relaxed phrasing, and space doing the heavy lifting. This approach is at the heart of Maxwell Street–era blues and the transition from acoustic to electric guitar in the late 1940s and early ’50s.
If you’re interested in:
• early electric Chicago blues
• solo blues guitar that still sounds full
• Maxwell Street–style rhythm playing
• Gretsch guitars and vintage tube tone
you’re in the right place.
