Pink Floyd's Roger Waters Tells The UN Attacks On Ukraine Were "Not Unprovoked" | English News
Pink Floyd co-founder Roger Waters addressed the United Nations Security Council at the request of Russia Wednesday (8 FEB. 2023).
In his speech, Waters told the council that he condemns the invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation saying it was "illegal" but "not unprovoked."
That comment drew the ire of members of the council including Ukrainian Ambassador to the United Nations Sergiy Kyslytsya calling the remarks "ironic" and "hypercritical."
Waters also demanded a cease-fire and painted the picture of a peaceful world that could be.
"Imagine the collective global sigh of relief, the outpouring of joy, the international joining of voices in harmony, singing an anthem to peace. John Lennon pumping the air with his fist from the grave," Waters hypothesized.
Russia requested the meeting to discuss "the prospects for the peaceful settlement of the crisis around Ukraine in the context of the increasing supplies of Western armaments".
