This project demonstrates how to create a simple DIY scroll saw using basic materials and tools. The design is built from lightweight plywood, a small DC motor, and a few mechanical components to achieve an effective up-and-down sawing motion.
The main frame is cut from plywood to form a sturdy “L” shape, which supports the vertical blade mechanism. A thin scroll saw blade is mounted between the top clamp—operated with a screw tensioner—and the lower mounting block connected to the motor. When the motor rotates, it drives a mechanism that moves the blade up and down, allowing it to cut wood or other lightweight materials.
A small table surface is attached near the blade to keep the workpiece steady during cutting. The motor is fixed underneath the frame using a custom wooden bracket to ensure stable operation. Once assembled, the scroll saw can be powered by a simple DC power supply, making it ideal for hobby crafting, DIY projects, and detailed woodworking.
