One this difficult board for first position, where would you place? Placing settlements is the most important decision of the game. Today we analyze these important decisions and argue 10 reasons why a certain placement is the strongest spot as the 1st position.

1. It is the highest producing spot on the board
2. It is the strongest ore spot. It is critical to have strong ore/wheat
3. Brick and ore only have 3 hexes instead of 4, making them rarer and harder to get
4. Good ore tiles by the coast are better than ore tiles in the center of the board
5. This spot allows player 2 to lock players 3 and 4 out of good ore production.
6. It is better to share the good ore with the player behind you. They can't block it
7. It is better to have short expansion options as the heavy ore player
8. We want to have a few port options
9. There are many other spots on this board with the complementary resources we need.
10. We would not want an opponent to have this spot. They will have an even better spot to go with it.
