Shortly HMNZS Te Kaha will be operating in the Arabian Sea in support of the NZDF-led CTF150.
This is a multi-national task force responsible for conducting maritime security operations to prevent the illegal transfer of people, narcotics and weaponry in the region. The profits from these shipments are a known source of funding for criminal and terrorist networks.
Based on intel received about vessels of interest, Combined Maritime Forces HQ in Bahrain will vector a warship to its location.
Te Kaha’s embarked Royal New Zealand Navy Seasprite helicopter will then conduct forward-reaching identification and surveillance of the vessel and will stay on station providing force protection to Te Kaha’s boarding teams as they board the vessel and search for illicit cargoes.
