New bone formation or heterotrophic ossification is a common problem in elbow injury and elbow surgery. the predisposing factors are complex elbow injuries, fracture dislocations of elbow and elbow surgeries. Head injury increase the risk of heterotrophic ossification to a great extent. Elbow is one of the most common joint involved in heterotrophic ossification. If there is a new boneformation at the elbow it is a very difficult problem. Radiation and indomethacin do have a role in preventing the new bone formation .
