The Wolf, gathering knowledge from a naive Riding Hood, makes his plans. She, in contrast, just tries to follow the rules given to her by her mother. She recalls the words but is ignorant.
He has verbal skill also, and with it is able to distract Red Cap with pretty flowers and get her off the path.
