🎵 Background of the Song & Artist

“Missed Connection” captures the rush and uncertainty of the very beginning of a relationship. The song began as a personal remembrance by singer-guitarist Jonathan Russell of how he met his girlfriend, but it also came to mirror the origin story of The Head and the Heart themselves. The band formed after a series of chance meetings at open mic nights at Seattle’s Conor Byrne pub in 2009.

Musically, the track blends indie folk with pop and hip-hop influences, marking a stylistic shift for the band. Drummer Tyler Williams noted that the quicker beats and high-hat patterns were unlike anything they had previously recorded. The song became The Head and the Heart’s third #1 on Billboard’s Adult Alternative Songs chart, following “Lost in My Mind” and “All We Ever Knew.”

The band recorded much of Living Mirage in locations across the U.S., including Joshua Tree National Park, with the song’s music video featuring grainy behind-the-scenes footage from those sessions.
