Hommage a Edith Piaf by Francis Poulenc was written after he heard Piaf sing “La vie en rose”. It is the last of his 15 improvisations for piano. I chose it for The Flautist series not only for its melodic beauty but as a way of trying to capture the the deep expression and colours of Piaf on the flute and another way for players to develop their middle register quality and resonance.
