Описание: Africa is not a monolith but is one of the most diverse continents in the world. Africa’s cultural differences influence the ways African people use technology for multiple purposes. Joy presents a theory that considers the ways African culture intersects with technological platforms to influence African user’s sociocultural narrative making. This theory considers three pillars in the ways it explicates African people’s technology use: interface analysis, African culture and Africa feminism. These pillars ensure African cultural systems are preserved, valued, and respected while African women’s negotiation of gender and power relations are focalized in technological discourse. Joy Enyinnaya is a Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of Journalism and Media Communication at Colorado State University. Joy’s research centers social identities in online spaces, specifically social media for marketing and branding. Joy uses the intersection of technology interface, user interaction, and cultural ideology to understand self-presentation online. When Joy is not studying, she loves going on bike rides with her family, playing board games and visiting museums/historical monuments. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
