KOLKATA STAMPEDE LIVE: Chorbagan Durga Puja Pandal Tragedy Leaves 19 Dead, 25 Injured

Описание: At least 19 people, most of them women and children, have died and 25 others were injured in a stampede at Kolkata’s Chorbagan Durga Puja pandal on October 17. Kolkata Police say inadequate crowd management and confusing announcements following a sudden downpour may have triggered panic. Seven people, including two Durga Puja committee officials, have been arrested. A sitting Calcutta High Court judge will probe the incident, while police examine CCTV footage. West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced ₹25 lakh and a government job for each deceased person’s family. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced separate compensation for victims.
