Описание: India’s top electric vehicle executives raised serious concerns about supply chain vulnerability at the India EV Conclave in New Delhi, warning that the country’s heavy dependence on China for battery components and critical minerals could undermine long-term competitiveness. During a panel on ‘Mapping India’s EV Success Stories Across Segments’, Eric Vas, President – EVs at Bajaj Auto, cautioned that India risks losing out globally if it continues relying on non-competitive cell imports. India currently imports 75% of its lithium-ion batteries from China, which also controls the majority of global processing for nickel (65%), cobalt (68%), and lithium (60%). With India targeting 30% EV penetration by 2030, executives warned this concentration poses major risks for cost, supply certainty, and geopolitical stability. Jayakumar G, Group President and Managing Director of Valeo India, expressed concern about India's heavy reliance on Chinese imports. Mahesh Babu, CEO of Olectra Greentech, too, offered a pragmatic view on the supply chain challenges. "There is no right or wrong in the supply chain issues. We can import now and at the same time try to de-risk for the future," he said. India aims to localize 60% of its battery manufacturing supply chain by 2030, a move experts believe is vital for strategic autonomy. The stakes are high: India’s EV market, valued at $2.36 billion in 2024, is projected to skyrocket to $164 billion by 2033 at a staggering CAGR of 57%.
