Welcome to a 99-second-tutorial by Zeisys Technologies, on Amazon Web Services or AWS.
In our previous cloud video, we learned how cloud providers like AWS, buy hardware in bulk, house this hardware in data centers, and lease this hardware as public cloud services, to various customers.
The collective capability, of all the AWS data centers in the world, is called the AWS Cloud.
Now let us examine how these data centers are organized around the globe.
As of July Twenty-Twenty-One, across the world, AWS cloud has 25 regions.
For example, in the North American Continent, AWS has 5 regions. Four of these, are in the United States, and the other, in Canada.
Each AWS region consists of, one or more Availability Zones or AZs.
As an example, the US East 1 region, in Northern Virginia, has six AZs.
Each AZ has, one or more data centers.
Each data centers house computing, networking, and storage hardware.
As computing services, you can lease a server using AWS EC2, or you can run a function serverlessly using AWS Lambda.
As networking services, you can lease routers, gateways, and firewalls.
As storage services, you can lease a virtual hard disk using AWS EBS, or, you can store your digital objects in an AWS s3 bucket.
To summarize, the AWS cloud is the collective capability of all the hardware, in the many data centers, grouped as Availability Zones, and geographically spread across 25 regions.
Hopefully, now you have a better understanding of what AWS cloud is.
