6880 Betton Grange, the newly completed Great Western “Grange” class locomotive, made a special appearance at the Bluebell Railway’s Giants of Steam Gala 2025.
Visiting from the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway, Betton Grange joined the Bluebell’s home fleet and guest engines for a weekend celebrating new-build steam and modern preservation success.
The locomotive was constructed because all of the original GWR 6800 Class Grange locomotives were withdrawn for scrap by the end of 1965. She is constructed from an assemblage of original GWR and newly manufactured components.
She was expected to be operational in 2013 but the locomotive steamed for the first time in April 2024 after more than 25 years of work.
