Being phyllo-dough-based, Bulgarian Banitsa is a type of burek (börek) and it comes with a broad range of fillings; the most common are different cheeses (most often sirene cheese), spinach, minced meat or a combination. There are also sweet fillings, for instance apple or pumpkin. This calorie dense pastry is inexpensive and thus makes for the perfect street food.
