Stephen Schwartz (Nueva York, 1948) es un compositor y letrista estadounidense. Estudió en Juilliard durante la secundaria y se graduó en la Universidad Carnegie Mellon. Stephen Schwartz (New York, 1948) is an American composer and lyricist. He studied at Juilliard during high school and later graduated from Carnegie Mellon University. He has influenced and mentored many contemporary musical theatre composers. His major works include Godspell, Pippin, Wicked, and the film scores for Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and The Prince of Egypt. Throughout his career, he has received three Grammy Awards and three Academy Awards, among many other honors.
“No One Mourns the Wicked” is the opening number of Wicked. It introduces the world of Oz after the death of the Wicked Witch of the West and highlights the contrast between appearance and truth, one of the show’s core themes.
