Windows and Turret Arch at Arches! Fisher Tower Trail!

Описание: First we tried to use our single FIREY Furnace permit to get into this crazily amazing maze of spires and arches and narrow passageways and dead ends!! Well they are so strict, they wouldn’t let us use anyone else’s permit even if they canceled! Plus we couldn’t get anyone else to give us their permits for 2 people when they left the trail. Ugh! Well, we decided to follow the rules as well once we saw that going in without a permit is punishable by $500 or 6 months in jail?! WTH?! I’ll skip that jail time, thank you!

So instead of going on the highest ranked hike I’ve ever seen….. we went to Windows and Turret Arch. These were gorgeous!!! Fun short little trails to these beautiful windows to the canyon and arches.

Then we drove to Fisher Tower Trail. The drive along the Colorado River Scenic Byway really showcased all of Utah’s finest. The snow capped La Sal mountains. The red rock canyons with the sheer walls or balanced rocks or spires. So many unique formations. We had the picture perfect blue sky day. And drove right along the Colorado River! Plus??? It’s not developed!!! We drove in pure nature!

The trail was incredible. Curvy narrow trails through the red sand and red rock. Up and down ladders. Twisting and turning right along cliff edges. We heard the screaming of the people climbing the TALLEST spire in the U.S., The Titan is 900 ft. tall, so famous it’s been in many movies. “The area is a maze of soaring fins, pinnacles, minarets, gargoyles, spires, and strangely shaped rock formations east of Moab.” It’s a 5.2 mile round trip hike.

“Fisher Towers are the remnants of a floodplain deposited from a region of geologic uplift in western Colorado. Millions of years of erosion wore away the softer layers of sandstone, leaving the more resistant rock that makes up the towers.

The flanks of the towers have a unique drapery-like appearance, which developed as rainwater percolated down the sandstone and left eroded ruts. The smooth appearance of these ruts gives the impression of folded curtains hanging from the top of the towers.”
