The melody valve is an innovative kind of heart conduit allowing physicians to repair defective pulmonary valves which helps restore blood flow to the heart. The device can delay or even prevent the need for open heart surgery. It's especially beneficial for children as it reduces the need for blood thinner medications and it may be enlarged in a child's heart as he or she grows.
Phoenix Children’s Heart Center has the most extensive experience in Arizona with this device. Nearly 100 percent of patients were discharged within 24 hours and more than 96% of patients remain free from re-intervention or re-operation. Additionally, Phoenix Children's Heart Center was the first in the state to implant a melody valve in the mitral position (rather than its normal pulmonary position).
