The Big Problem With Rex Airlines

Australia's third largest airline, Rex, has gone into voluntary administration. It's cancelled all of its flights between major capital cities, and hundreds of jobs are on the chopping block. You see, a few years ago, it tried to take on Australia's two major airlines, Qantas and Virgin, by offering flights between major capital cities as well as its regional flights. But that didn't work out too well because it needed to pay for more planes and it struggled to score peak flight times at the big airports. Just a few months ago, another smaller Aussie airline, Bonza, also went bust and many are worried our aviation industry is getting less and less competitive. The loss of Rex would also massively impact travellers in regional areas because it covers routes the bigger airlines don't. At the moment, it's regional flights are still in the air and people are working hard behind the scenes to try to save the company with the government saying it'll try to do what it can to help too. So we'll just have to wait and see if they can stay in the skies.

OLYMPICS UPDATE
Another day, another Olympic gold for Australia! Yep, Aussie swimmer Kaylee McKeown's taken out the gold medal and set a new Olympic record in the women's 100m backstroke final in Paris. Meanwhile, Australia's women's rugby sevens team have just missed out on a medal, finishing fourth after going down 14-12 to the United States. And even though she's not Australian, it's worth telling you about US gymnast Simone Biles. Not only did she draw a celeb packed crowd to the artistic gymnastics women's final, she helped Team USA win the gold, making her the most decorated US Olympic gymnast of all time, with five golds! As for the triathlon? Well, organisers reckon the Seine River is looking a bit better and are planning to go ahead with it!

FOOTY GIRL
Now it's time to meet 12-year-old Pippa from South Australia. She's a rising footy star, but her dream to play professionally is about to get a lot harder. She lives here, in Bordertown in regional South Australia and she's the only player in the state's south-east to be picked to play on the SA under 12's team at this weekend's National School Sport Australia Championship. But in the next couple of years, things are about to get harder for Pippa. You see, at the moment, she plays in a mixed team for the Bordertown Roosters. But when she turns 14, she's not allowed to play in a mixed team anymore and she'll have to travel for more than an hour to train and play with the nearest under 16 girls team. Local sport clubs say they know there's still a long way to go to make sure girls like Pippa have the same opportunities as boys. They're working to build more girls teams and facilities, and Pippa's doing her best to make it happen too.

ROBOT DOG VACUUM
First up, to the beaches of Italy where this sucker has been busy, uh, sucking. Yep, connected to each of its legs is a vacuum hose, allowing it to pick up small bits of rubbish wherever it goes!

INSECT FOOD
Now to a restaurant in Singapore which is trying out putting bugs in its food. Customers have been flocking from far and wide to try out these dishes after Singapore's government recently approved them for human consumption. And the biggest fan of all seems to be the restaurant's owner.

OLD PEOPLE OLYMPICS
And finally, to the elderly Olympics at a retirement village in Los Angeles, California. If all this training pays off, who knows, they might get an invite to compete at the next Olympics in 2028, it will be in Los Angeles after all.
