জ্যোতিষশাস্ত্রে একটি গ্রহ একটি ঘরে ০° থেকে ৩০°র মধ্যে কোনো ডিগ্রীতে থাকবে। বিভিন্ন ডিগ্রীতে থাকার ফলে, তার প্রভাব বিভিন্ন ভাবে প্রতিফলিত হবে।
ভারতীয় জ্যোতিষশাস্ত্রে একটি গ্রহের অবস্থানকে তার অবস্থান ডিগ্রী দ্বারা কয়েকটি মুখ্য ভাগে বিভক্ত করা হয়েছে।একে ‘গ্রহ অবস্থা’ বলা হয়। কোন ডিগ্রীতে গ্রহের প্রভাব কেমন হবে তা সহজ বোধ্য করার জন্য একেকটি ভাগের নামেই তার প্রকাশ পায়। যেমন বাল্য, কুমার, যুবা, বৃদ্ধ, মৃত অবস্থা। এখানে বাল্য অবস্থার চেয়ে কুমার অবস্থা বেশী শক্তিশালী, তার চেয়ে বেশী যুবা অবস্থা বেশী শক্তিশালী। বৃদ্ধ ও মৃত অবস্থা ক্রমশ কম শক্তিশালী। বলতে পারেন ক্রমশ শক্তিহীন হয়ে পড়ে। তাহলে এর সহজ অর্থ হবে যে যদি একটি গ্রহ খুব ভালো অবস্থানে আছে কিন্তু তার ডিগ্রী বৃদ্ধাবস্থা বা মৃতাবস্থায় থাকে তাহলে ব্যক্তিটি একটি নির্দিষ্ট বিষয়ে গুনী হতে পারেন কিন্তু পরিস্থিতি তাকে সাহায্য করবে না। অথবা পরিস্থিতি খুব ভালো হতে পারে কিন্তু জাতক তার সঠিক ব্যবহার করতে পারবে না।অথবা নিজের উন্নতিকে ধরে রাখতে পারবে না। আবার অন্থক পরিশ্রম করে উন্নতি অর্জন করবে। একেবারে প্রাথমিক ডিগ্রীতে হলে অপরিপক্কতা ও একেবারে শেষের ডিগ্রীতে চেষ্টার অভাব দেখা দেবে।
এই অবস্থা নির্ধারন হয় নিম্নলিখিত নিয়ম অনুসারে:
যদি গ্রহ বিষম রাশিতে(১,৩,৫,৭,৯ ও ১১ রাশিতে) বাসস্থ তাহলে
০-৬° বাল্য অবস্থা
৬-১২° কুমার অবস্থা
১২-১৮° যুবা অবস্থা
১৮-২৪° বৃদ্ধাবস্থা
২৪-৩০° মৃতাবস্থা
মতান্তরে কিছু জ্যোতিষ বিধা ১৮-২৪° কে প্রৌড়াবস্থা ও ২৪-৩০°কে বৃদ্ধাবস্থা বলে নির্ধারিত করে। শুধু গ্রহের অবস্থান ০° হলেই তাকে মৃতাবস্থা বলে নির্ধারিত করে।
A Study of Planets Strength by Degree
In Vedic Astrology, the degree wise strength of planets shows the influence of a particular planet over others. It also signifies which planet the native has to endure the most in his/her life. While talking of degree of planets in Vedic Astrology, the Avasthas of planets become the deciding factors. In layman’s terms, avastha means the condition or the state of a planet depending on the degree it occupies as it transits over the constellations. The movement over different points in the Zodiac influences the mood of each planet. The Avasthas of planets are further divided into five categories. However, here we’ll concentrate only on Baladi Avasthas that are purely based on the position of planets in terms of a specific degree out of 30 degrees in a given sign.
All planets and also the ascendent position themselves at specific degrees, creating a certain state or Avastha. The degrees in Baladi Avasthas provide the basis for judging the Strength of Planets that also include five states of six degrees each. The Avasthas represent human progression from birth to death.
