A pavane is a slow, stiff, processional dance from the 16th-17th century and I felt that it would be fitting to represent Peril's journey. Hatched with firescales, she was avoided by all who feared brushing against her, and grew used to moving in such a careful manner that she never touched anything or anyone that might be set alight - accidentally, that is. Once she had moved to the Jade Mountain Academy and was ostensibly free, she still had to be constantly vigilant and was feared by those around her, with the exception of Clay. But still Peril wasn't truly free - she was never fully confident in who she really was - merely attempting to be good or doomed to be evil? She killed for Scarlet because she earned what no one else offered freely - love and acceptance - and she did things for Clay that were 'good' because she tried to be what she thought Clay wanted her to be. After everything that followed on her journey and she came full circle back to her Jade Winglet, the first thing she did that was her own decision and that felt truly right to her was burning Darkstalker's scroll. She gained a huge measure of confidence in herself and the knowledge that she was truly good - not because Clay told her she was, but because she had done the right thing without needing to think about it. The music for Peril's ending is not about big & dramatic . . . it's about finding peace.
