A patient of Atlanta Bariatrics describes what made her finally go through with Bariatric Surgery.
"As a child, I was overweight. I wasn't obese as a child, teenager, or even a student in college. I gained the most of my weight, and all of my weight actually when I got pregnant with my first and only child at about 24 or 25. I had developed psuedo-tumor cerebri, which is a fake brain tumor, so to speak. And, it was managed by prednisone, a steroid called prednisone. I stayed on that for 2 years, a year and a half, 2 years, and then I discontinued it. With pregnancy, I gained 89 pounds. I lost a little bit of it breastfeeding, but then I reached my max weight of over 300 pounds. When I was at my heaviest, I could do hardly anything. It was a chore for me to go downstairs and get something. I would worry my fiance all the time, "can you go get this for me from downstairs or can you go get that?" I was too lazy, and it hurt too much for me to get up and move. That is the truth behind it all. It seems hard to fathom but it's true. I decided to make a change, several times actually. I tried for surgery a few times and then kind of chickened out when I got to the max point. But when I saw the scale, 317. When I saw 317 hit, I decided there wasn't any more chickening out."
