An ARC, or Advanced Reader’s Copy, is generally a book that is not quite ready for publication. Although the story has been edited and all the plot points are in place, the book may still have typos or incomplete art. These books are usually released as paperbacks, even when authors plan to print the final book as a hardcover. That’s because paperbacks are less expensive to produce, so the same budget can create even more copies.
An ARC, also known as a galley, is meant to be sent out to reviewers and book buyers in advance of publication. By getting the book out into the world, you are able to build early buzz around your book. That early buzz can help you launch the book successfully and make for stronger sales across the life of your book!
