All the intuition you use to believe that distance is something clear, stable, and fixed—that's the product of a small, slow world. It works fine for measuring the coffee table in your living room, but it's completely inadequate for a universe that operates on the scale of light, of spacetime, of things Newton in 1687 could never have imagined. And then in 1905, Einstein showed up and… snapped that concept in half.
