My name is Michelle Hang, and I am currently a junior majoring in Agricultural Science and Technology at the University of Maryland, College Park. My concentration is in environmental horticulture, and my work is primarily in greenhouse and crop production for human consumption.
I am currently taking a course about global food systems and production. The class touches upon many key topics that I feel very passionate about such as sustainability, climate change, soil health, and polyculture farms.
For the course’s final project, I am tasked with the project of filming any topic within our food system that resonates with me. My dream after graduation is to own my own organic and sustainable farm that will be able to have its own CSA program. I want my film to center on local agriculture and how local and small scale farms impact the community, land, and other aspects that large-scale monoculture agribusinesses cannot.
