NY Kayaking | Exploring the Hidden Gems of Historic Port Jeff Harbor & Pirates Cove

Описание: Join me as I kayak through Port Jefferson Harbor on Long Island, NY. This harbor is a bustling waterway with frequent ferry traffic connecting Long Island to Connecticut, along with many mega yachts, sailboats, jet skis, etc. Port Jefferson is full of history, originating with the Indigenous Setalcotts, until settlers arrived in 1682. With the arrival of these settlers, the harbor began to develop into a major shipbuilding hub. The town and harbor has evolved over the years and while shipbuilding has left Port Jefferson, there is still so much history that remains.

Nearby Pirates Cove is a hidden gem not far from the harbor. Beneath the water of the cove there are ruins of former mining operations. Along the coast of the cove is McAllister County Park which is home to enormous sand dunes which can be walked and make for incredible views. This area is one of the most peaceful and beautiful places that I've been and I love coming here to enjoy all it has to offer.

This kayaking adventure is episode one in a series of paddles I plan on taking inspired by "Paddling Long Island and New York City" by Kevin Stiegelmaier.
