Abilene to gain direct flights to Denver and Houston in 2026

This development is part of Project Rise, a collaboration between the City of Abilene and the Development Corporation of Abilene (DCOA), aimed at enhancing travel options and bolstering the local economy.

Local residents are expressing excitement over the new routes. Brownwood traveler Leland Holmes said, “The more places I go, the happier I am. Having DFW and Austin is great, but these new flights make life easier!”

After the City of Abilene announced the expanded flights on social media, residents shared their excitement with comments like “Finally an option to go west!” and “Grandkids here we come!”

Project Rise not only aims to improve travel convenience but also to strengthen Abilene’s position as a business hub.

Mayor Weldon Hurt stated, “We heard Abilene residents want more flights, and by partnering with the DCOA and SkyWest, we are making that request a reality.”

Misty Mayo, CEO of DCOA, emphasized, “This is a direct investment in Abilene’s business community, providing the reliable connectivity companies need to compete and expand.”

Direct United Express flights from Abilene to Denver and Houston will begin in March 2026, providing travelers with another option to reach these destinations.
