Welcome to another Quick Stitch tutorial!
Whether you are just learning to hand sew or brushing up on old skills, these tutorials are where you can learn the sewing methods of the 18th century and more.
This tutorial covers the seaming technique of the 18th and early 19th century which finishes lining and outer fabric concurrently with seaming. This seam was named an "English Seam" by Friedrich Heyder, a German tailor who wrote "The Complete Art of Tailoring" and published it in 1834. Prior to that we are unable to find any documentation that specifically references this method of seaming although it appears to be used through out the 18th century and on into the 19th century in extant garments.
