For Varon, difficulty walking up the stairs was the first sign something was wrong. After being diagnosed with amyloidosis, Varon was delivered shocking news. He would need a new heart, and a new liver.
Varon underwent the 23 hour surgery at the Washington University and Barnes-Jewish Transplant Center, one of only a few centers in the country that specialize in multi-organ transplant.
He has done remarkably well since the transplant and has returned to his active lifestyle. Varon is grateful for everything that's happened in his life and appreciates the gift that was given to him through organ donation.
