Drawing on the instinct and geometry he had learned from ricochet shots at the pool table, Kelleher calculated a deflected rifle trajectory no manual had ever taught. From 480 yards away, he fired a single round. Seconds later, the German observer was dead, and the valley was finally opened for Allied movement.

That one shot became the foundation of a technique that spread through Italy, North Africa, and later Normandy, helping neutralize more than 120 fortified positions and saving hundreds of lives. Yet Jimmy Kelleher’s name never appeared in the official glory. His method lived on. His story did not.
