SYNOPSIS:
Ambassador Baron Mirko Zeta and his French wife Valencienne host a ball at the Pontevedrian Embassy in Paris. The occasion is a fund-raiser for his Balkan country, "poor poor Pontevedro". When rich Pontevedrian widow Hanna Glawari arrives in search of a new husband, she is beset by Frenchmen, all anxious to marry her for money. But Hanna has an eye on her old flame, playboy diplomat Count Danilo Danilovitch. Danilo is reluctant to give up his bachelorhood, or to forswear the beautiful Grisettes from his favourite naughty nightclub, Chez Maxim. To prevent bankruptcy of Pontevedro and loss of Hanna's money, can Zeta and his team convince Danilo to marry the Widow before she takes a Frenchman? Will she marry for love? For spite? To save someone else's reputation?
