Knee X-ray positioning typically involves two main views: anteroposterior (AP) and lateral. For the AP view, the patient lies on the table with their knee flexed 30–45 degrees, and the X-ray beam is directed at the apex of the patella. For the lateral view, the patient lies on their side, flexing the knee to 20–30 degrees, with the central ray aimed about one inch below the medial epicondyle.
Chest x-ray positioning involves standard views like the Posterior-Anterior (PA) view (front of chest against the detector), Lateral view (side view with the left side against the detector), and Anterior-Posterior (AP) view (patient sitting or lying down). For PA and Lateral views, patients stand erect with shoulders rolled forward and arms raised to minimize the scapula and get a clear image. Inability to stand leads to the use of AP or lateral decubitus positioning.
