Democrats grill Noem over Minneapolis deaths as Republicans bemoan sanctuary cities

Описание: Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem returned to Capitol Hill Wednesday for a second consecutive day of testimony, this time appearing before the House Judiciary Committee amid mounting political pressure over immigration enforcement policies.
Throughout the hearing, Republicans focused their questioning on sanctuary cities and the defense of Noem from Democrat-led claims, as Democrats focused their questioning on the tactics used by ICE agents to detain individuals and the deaths of Renee Good and Alex Pretti in Minneapolis.
Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, opened the hearing with the news that lawmakers would be moving forward with legislation to counter sanctuary city policies, called the "Shut Down Sanctuary Policies Act." Sanctuary policies limit the cooperation between local law enforcement and federal immigration enforcement.
Jordan said the House will mark up the bill on Thursday and that he expects it will pass the House before moving to the Senate.
