This video is a continuation of the videos about fractions. In this video, we move on to decimals and use a place value grid to model how to divide whole numbers by 10.
National Curriculum Objectives:
Year 4: Find the effect of dividing a one- or two-digit number by 10 and 100, identifying the value of the digits in the answer as ones, tenths and hundredths.
Year 6: Identify the value of each digit in numbers given to 3 decimal places and multiply and divide numbers by 10, 100 and 1,000 giving answers up to 3 decimal places
CfW Progression Step 3: I can use a range of representations to extend my understanding of the number system to include negative values, decimals and fractions. I can demonstrate my understanding that non-integer quantities can be represented using fractions (including fractions greater than 1), decimals and percentages.
