C Stock Destination Blind

This blind (and its housing) was removed from the cab of C69 car 5529 upon the decommissioning of its unit (5529-6529) in June 2014. Following restoration in August 2014, the blind is now operational once again.

As the C Stock trains were used on the Circle, Hammersmith & City and District lines, the majority of the destinations listed are naturally for terminal stations and reversing points. However, Wembley Park station is also listed, which on the Sub-Surface lines, is served by the Metropolitan line. Including duplicates and two 'Not In Service' descriptions, there are 38 possible destinations on this blind; the result is that the blind roll is very long, which requires some effort in rotating the crank. The audio has been left in place in this clip so that the 'creaking' of the material can be appreciated as it is run through the blind mechanism.

The actual blind roll dates from late 2009, when the Circle line was 'extended' to Hammersmith. The previous roll featured destinations displayed in all-capital letters; the mixed-case text employed on the new blinds as a way of providing greater clarity when viewing the destination from a distance.
