This video covers a test and exercise that can be used to improve low back extensor muscle endurance and strength. The Sorensen test describes an isometric muscle endurance test in which the back extensors are used to hold the spine in a prone horizontal position as shown in this video.
Although previous data has been somewhat mixed, it does appear as though limited back extensor muscle endurance may be associated with an increased risk of developing low back pain.
Previous research in which males and females between the ages of 35-54 were tested, found that individuals without low back pain could hold the Sorensen test for an average of 100 seconds.
